I've been mesmorised by this piece ever since I first heard Sokolov's interpretation. The way he plays it, with both hands at the same pitch as the original is fiendishly difficult since the hands are constantly clashing (d'Alembert's commonly performed arrangement is easier since in the couplets he separates each hand an octave apart). The articulation also has to be perfect since otherwise repeated notes are lost if you don't release fast enough. I've practised this piece for months in this way and it is a beast - how Sokolov plays it so cleanly at that speed is astonishing!

This arrangement and orchestration of Kaňka is beautiful and it keeps the original melodies of schubert (compared to Cassadò's version). I'd like to see or buy the sheet music very much.

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! the emotions conveyed by Rachmaninoff are lost, the accompaniment in the main part is also very loud, and the concert itself is very loud in general. A terrible record!!!!

Cziffra was amazing, no doubt. But etudes like this are more for showing off virtuosity than anything else. I don;t much care to listen to them.

The first Satie

Mozart would have hated all twentieth century music, although that's unknowable. This piece is more self-parody than parody of anyone else. Still I find it rather enjoyable, refreshing, except the crude middle finger dissonance at the end. I particularly love this brief foreshadowing of Stravinsky's "L'histoire du Soldat" 5:20.

one of my good friend recently died from an accident. She was such a sweet soul and supposed to be a pianist one day. Schubert used to be her favorite composer. The more I listen to Schubert, the more I understand her.
